Cultural association El Realejo will organize the VI Organ Concert Series “Villa de Tordesillas”.

As in previous years, the involvement of renowned organists will make the concerts series a great cultural and musical event.
This year, three concerts will be played in the organ of Santa María’s church, with their corresponding matinees the following morning in San Pedro’s organ, as well as the screening of the a set-to-music film in November.

300 ANNIVERSARY OF SANTA MARÍA’S ORGAN

The contract for the construction of the organ of Santa Maria’s church in Tordesillas was signed in 1716. Phelipe Urarte, born in Viana (Navarra) designed it and built it with the help of “Gabriel Alonso, born in Simancas, master architect, and Franco Bastida, from Valladolid, master carver”, who designed and built the case, and “Mr. Joseph de Bustamante, master gilder, who completed the decoration” in 1756. It is possible that Phelipe Urarte had his workshop in our city for a while since he was “from Tordesillas” and that he built a great number of instruments here. Three hundred years of history and changes may seem a lot, but it could last many more if only we take care of it.  Maintaining its use for music, both liturgical and cultural, will give meaning to its longevity.
